Obituary for Fred Porter QC

Fredrick Joseph Porter QC – Passed away peacefully at Sakura House, surrounded by family at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Nelly Porter for 54 years. Loving father of Corinne & Eric Hoekstra, Stephanie Porter & Steve Scott, David & Sumi Porter and Elizabeth Porter. Cherished Opa of Ian & Teah Hoekstra, Abbey Hoekstra & Spencer Dawe, Tyler & Samantha Scott. Great-grandpa (Opa) to Kylie Taverner & Blake Scott. Dear brother to Rosemary Porter. Brother-in-law to John DeBruyn, Ena DeBruyn & Joe Widdis, Paul DeBruyn and Richard & Moira DeBruyn. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended friends and family.

As we celebrate his life, we remember Fred was especially committed to his family as a Husband, Father, Brother, Son, and loving Opa. He celebrated all birthdays and anniversaries with much excitement and enjoyed time spent during those annual events of life.

In his professional life he had an unwavering devotion to the practice of criminal law during his 28 years as Crown Attorney for Oxford County, Fred made many significant contributions to the enhancement of law across Canada. He also promoted the very best in advocacy and public service in his local community.

He served as the Akela for the 4th Woodstock Cub Pack through the Salvation Army Community Church for over 30 years, Fred has demonstrated without hesitation an outstanding contribution to the youth in his community.

Family and friends will be received at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Friday, June 3, 2022 from 4-7 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. Cremation to follow with a private family interment of ashes at a later date.
