Obituary for Joe Horvath

HORVATH, Joe - It is with great sadness that the family of Jozsef “Joe” Horvath announces his passing after a brief illness. Joe passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife and son Jozsef Jr. on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Woodstock Hospital.

Beloved husband of Zsuzsanna Horvath of Woodstock. Dear father of Jozsef Jr. Horvath (Emily Look-Achoy) of Toronto, Zoltan Horvath (Margit) and Eva Nemethne Horvath (Gergo) all of Hungary. Grandfather of Gergo and Matyika of Hungary. Predeceased by his parents Jozsef and Erzsebete Horvath and an infant sister Erzsebet.

Born in Hungary, he was a professional soccer player before coming to Canada. Here, he continued to be heavily involved in soccer and was also involved with numerous charities including Habitat for Humanity and the United Way. He was always a warm and kind man who was quick to offer help to anyone who needed it. He also loved to laugh and joke. Everyone has their own unique “Joe” story, and it has been so wonderful to hear many of them. We will certainly cherish all the laughter we shared together. Joe brought so much love and joy into our lives. He will be deeply missed and always remembered. One day, we will all be reunited in heaven. Until then, watch over us.

The family will receive friends at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington St. N, Woodstock on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 from 2 – 4 pm & 6 – 8 pm. A complete funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday at 11 am. Cremation will follow.
