Obituary for Lotte Yusyp

On Feb 10, 2023, our deeply beloved mother, Lotte Yusyp (nee Slowikow), age 94, passed away surrounded by her children Levko, Maryjanne, Bohdan and grandson, Christopher.

Growing up as a young girl in Herne, Germany during World War II, she experienced the hardships and horrors that war brings. She married her husband, Dmytro (deceased 2010) in Germany after the war, and together immigrated to Canada in 1951. Initially sponsored on a farm, they quickly moved to Woodstock and struggled with little support to build a family and home.

Our mother always showed much kindness to those less fortunate and always helped whenever and with whatever she could, including feeding any homeless animal she found. She was wholly devoted to her children.

She travelled much, especially back to Germany numerous times. It was her home that she always carried in her heart. Even at age 90, she travelled alone to Germany to see her relatives and friends. She loved to laugh and watch old movies. She loved to read history. She loved to walk and tell stories about her life to whomever would listen. And she told them well.

Unfortunately, she suffered many setbacks in the last 7 months of her life. But she refused to give up and overcame so many hurdles. But in the end, she grew tired and slowly and peacefully let go. She leaves behind 4 children, 5 grandchildren 4 great grandchildren and 3 cats. There are no words to describe how deeply she will be missed.

A private family service has been held. Interment and remembrance gathering for family and friends will occur in May. Ruhe in frieden, liebe Mutter
