Obituary for Vita Pearson

PEARSON, Vita
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Vita Pearson at the age of 88.

Cherished wife of J. Edward Pearson for 65 years, loving mother of Sandra Oczkowski (Ed) of Embro, William Pearson (Catherine) of Woodstock and Barbara McDonald (John) of London, kind grandmother to grandsons Coleman and Mason McDonald and David Oczkowski. She will be missed by her nephew Jerry Gale (Paula), niece Shelly Corbin (Paul), cousin and goddaughter Lillian Richard (Cliff) all from Nova Scotia.

Predeceased by parents William and Florence Boudreau (nee Bond) and sisters Dorothy Pettipas (Fordy) and Marion Gale (Jerry) all from Nova Scotia. Survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Born and raised in Port Felix, Nova Scotia she never forgot her Acadian roots. She would recall stories about fishermen on the wharf and describe the thick fog that rolled into the tiny port. When traditional Acadian music filled the room she was soon laughing, clapping, foot stomping and enjoying herself thoroughly. She had vivid memories of her proud maritime upbringing and the common sense and self-sufficiency naturally ingrained within her family and ancestors who managed to survive the often harsh environment.

She was a devoted wife and mother who took pride in her family. She was an impeccable housekeeper and took great pleasure in her clean and tidy house. Always a supportive wife she took on the role of part time secretary by taking real estate calls at home for her husband. She volunteered for VON by visiting seniors in retirement homes. She cared about her health and participated in many yoga and fitness classes over the years. She had a smile that brightened any room.

The family wishes to thank People Care in Tavistock for excellent care. Upon moving to The Maples in Tavistock she found a new home and family and enjoyed daily visits from her husband. Staff at Maples demonstrated exemplary care, compassion and promoted dignity during her time there and delighted many with her caring attitude coupled with her fiery spirit.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date. If desired, memorial donations can be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Oxford or The Canadian Wildlife Federation. Arrangements have been entrusted to the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock, On (519-537-3611). Personal condolences may be sent at www.smithleroy.com
