Obituary for Mary Murray
Murray, Mary – Passed away peacefully at the Woodstock Hospital on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the age of 97.
She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband Glen Murray and daughter Patricia Masters. Loving mother of Bonnie Cohoe, Peggy Hickling (Ross), Betty Worthy (Norm) and Bill Murray (Linda). She will be sadly missed by her 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents James and Mary (nee McDonald) Brownlee and sisters Catherine Phillips and Margaret Murray.
Mary grew up on a farm in Vaughan Township and was the youngest of 3 girls. After graduating as a Registered Nurse from Toronto General Hospital, she nursed for VON for 2 years. After Glen came home from the war she married him and raised 5 children on a dairy farm in New Lowell, west of Barrie. After retirement, they moved to Gowganda in Northern Ontario and operated a trap line for 10 years. Following Glen’s death, Mary moved to Woodstock and volunteered at the Baptist church and in the community.
A memorial visitation will be held at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock (519-537-3611), on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 from 10 am – 10:45 am. A memorial service will follow at 11 am with Pastor Phil Cole.
