Obituary for Mieczyslaw "Mitch" JAWORSKI

From your Nephews:
There were historians and statisticians and there was our Uncle Mitch. Most people used the internet to reference historical stats in sports but Uncle Mitch had those numbers memorized from childhood until his passing. His knowledge covered sports from power lifting to fishing. But when it came down to the love of sport, it was CFL football and NHL hockey. He watched every televised CFL game over the years but it was our passion for hockey that we shared: he was an ardent Canadiens fan and he ensured that Dad and my brothers, and I were aware that Montreal had won 24 Stanley Cups. Mitch shared his passion for geology and astronomy with us as well. He had a thirst for knowledge and was proud to share as much as he could with us. Uncle Mitch, you will be sadly missed.

Few words come to mind when thinking of Uncle Mitch. However the first things that come to mind was his passion for research and his unlimited knowledge of the game of hockey. Uncle Mitch knew all of the parts of our family history, family crest and origins from Poland. He studied and followed World War 2 and the Cold War in great detail and was always happy to share his findings with others. As a sports fanatic he was a die-hard Habs fan and loved the rivalry with Dad and his Maple Leafs. I remember as a family we added to this when we bought him a Rocket Richard #9 Montreal Canadiens Retro jersey. He wore that thing religiously and loved to rub it in our faces whenever the Habs won. He also loved the CFL and was a Grey Cup enthusiast having been to numerous Grey Cup's all over Canada. He loved the Blue Jays and the SkyDome and the Tallboy cans of beer. He may not have had much but he most definitely had great memories and an endless number of experiences. Most importantly Mitch loved visiting with his family and lunches at Kelsey's with my Dad, Brothers and myself. I know we lost touch over the last few years but Uncle Mitch will be missed and I hope he is having a tall glass of Crown Royal as he takes his place with Grandpa and Grandma now up in Heaven. I am missing you already Uncle Mitch.

Uncle Mitch loved to talk about many things but what stood out the most to me was the funny family stories he shared with us that made us all laugh very hard. He also shared old hockey statistics especially when the game was hard hitting affair; and our family history rooted in Poland. He always brought a smile to my face and I too will sadly miss you Uncle Mitch.

From Your Brother:
Mitch: I miss the days we grew up together, as boys, until we matured into men. There were so many fun things we did together that they bring tears to my eyes. I too, like your nephews, enjoyed the wealth of knowledge you shared with us especially the family history you researched in depth. It never ceased to amaze me how you were able to secure your information without the use of the internet. The days of cabbage rolls and pierogi’s we had eating together, as a family, are just one of those very special activities we always found time to do together. There are so many other good things that come to mind but it is so hard to express my love for you, as a brother, that I am heartbroken. With this tribute to a great brother and uncle I will close by saying: We loved you then and we will continue to love you with all our hearts and souls. You are now in a better place with Mum and Dad and I know you are watching over us. You will forever have a place in our hearts Mitch and you will be sadly, sadly missed.

With all our Love: Blair, Brent, Sean, and Eugene
